Chinwe Anthonia MUODUMOGU PhD, is Professor of English Language/Education at the Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria, where she teaches Language methodology courses with emphasis on reading and literacy skills and content area reading strategies from undergraduate to PhD level. Chinwe has successfully supervised 24 PhD theses and 65 Master’s degree dissertations in English language, literacy instructional methods and strategies, classroom practices and curriculum and instruction. She is a co-author of Effective English Teaching in Primary and Secondary Schools which has been in use since 1999.
Chinwe has over 60 publications in both international and national reputable journals in her areas of research interests which include early literacy, family literacy, comprehension instructional strategies, Meta-cognitive strategies and adolescent literacy. She is the Editor-in-chief of two professional journals and a member of the Editorial Board of three other professional journals. Chinwe hasheld several offices in the Literacy Promotion Association of Nigeria (LiPAN) formally Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN): the North East Zonal Coordinator from 2006 – 2008; Chairperson, Makurdi Branch 2006 to2010; President – Elect, 2008 – 2010, and President, from 2010 – 2012 and Member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) ofLiPAN from 2012 to date.
Prof Muodumogu is a member of the International Development Committee- Africa (IDC – A) a regional Affiliate of the International Literacy Association (ILA). She was the chairperson of IDCA from 2014 to 2016 during which she inaugurated the Reading Association of Liberia in 2014. She was a member of the International Reading Association (IRA) Global Taskforce that met in Frankfurt, Germany in 2016 to restructure IRA to International Literacy Association (ILA).
She has been a trainer in many workshops for retraining of teachers across Nigeria such as: Abia State Universal Basic Education Teachers’ Enhancement Workshop, 28th April to 8th May, 2010; Read Campaign of the Federal Ministry of Education in the Six Geo-Political Zones of Nigeria, 2013 to 2015, andLiteracy Enhancement and Achievement Project for Junior Secondary School Teachers in Anambra State (a World Bank Project) from 2015 to 2016.
She was a presenter, at the First Jolly Phonics International Summit held at Regents University, London in 2016in her capacity as the Academic Team Leader, Benue State Jolly PhonicsProgramme.
Professor Chinwe Muodumogu was the Director, Centre for Gender Studies, Benue State University, Makurdi from 2017 to 2022. During her tenure the receivedgrants from TetFundand executed two Gender based researches. She is the Principal Investigator in ongoing research funded by the Canadian Organisation for Development through Education (CODE) on E-Portfolios & Digital Inquiry-Based Information Technology and Pupils’ Literacy Abilities.
She is a member of the Nigerian Academy for Education and a Fellow, Literacy Promoters Association of Nigeria.
