The Literacy Promotion Association, Nigeria (LiPAN), formerly the Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN), invites you to its 20th Biennial Conference.
Hosted by the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, the conference brings together educators, researchers, policymakers, literacy practitioners, publishers, development partners, and students to engage in critical conversations on early literacy development and its role in learning and national development.
As Nigeria continues to strive for improved educational outcomes and sustainable development, strengthening foundational literacy remains a national priority. This conference provides a platform for sharing research, innovative practices, policy perspectives, and collaborative strategies that can advance literacy development across the country.

About the Conference
The Literacy Promotion Association, Nigeria (LiPAN) is a professional association dedicated to promoting literacy development, reading culture, language education, and lifelong learning. Since its establishment in 1982 as the Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN), the Association has provided leadership in literacy advocacy, research, teacher development, and educational innovation.

The conference recognises that literacy acquired in the early years forms the basis for academic success, lifelong learning, productive citizenship, and national development. Researchers, educators, literacy practitioners, policymakers, publishers, development partners, and students are invited to submit abstracts related to the conference theme and sub-themes.
Abstract Guidelines
- Abstracts should clearly state the purpose, methodology, findings, and implications of the study or presentation.
- Abstracts should not exceed 300 words.
- Include the title of the paper, author's name(s), institutional affiliation, email address, and telephone number.
- Abstracts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
- All submissions will undergo peer review.

Building a National Reading Culture
Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) is a flagship literacy initiative of the Literacy Promotion Association, Nigeria (LiPAN) designed to promote reading culture in schools, homes, and communities.
The initiative encourages individuals to set aside dedicated time for reading and seeks to establish reading as a valued and enjoyable lifelong habit.
Objectives of DEAR
- Promote a culture of reading among children, youth, and adults.
- Increase reading engagement and literacy development.
- Encourage schools to provide structured reading opportunities.
- Strengthen partnerships for literacy promotion.
- Support lifelong learning through sustained reading practices.
Implementation Strategy
Awareness and Mobilisation: school and community mobilisation, publicity materials, teacher support resources, chapter engagement and advocacy.
Pilot Implementation: books and reading materials, mentor training and support, school visits, monitoring, evaluation and documentation.
Expansion to additional states and communities, with stronger partnerships and sustainability.
